Om Namah Shivaya. Bathukamma, Bathukamma — sway on the swing (the refrain of every Bathukamma song).
How to recite
Bathukamma is the 9-day Telangana floral festival ending the day before Dussehra (Mahalaya Amavasya → Durgashtami). Smartha women build a conical 'gopuram' of seasonal autumn flowers — gunuka, banti, tangedu, gummadi, chamanthi — layer on layer in a brass plate, place a turmeric Gauri at the apex, and gather in the courtyard each evening to circle the floral tower clapping and singing Bathukamma paatalu (songs). The 9th day — Saddula Bathukamma — is the principal vrat, with a morning fast, the tallest gopuram, and immersion of the flowers in a tank or well at dusk, returning with the 'saddi' (cold rice prasadam).
Benefits
Held to grant marital wellbeing, fertility, and the Goddess's grace on the household; the floral immersion is regarded as returning the Devi to her cosmic waters.
