Sayana Ekadashi (Devshayani / Hari-sayani / Padma Ekadashi) — Asadha Shukla Ekadashi — the day Lord Vishnu 'goes to sleep' on Sesa Naga in the Ksirodaka ocean for four months. This begins the Caturmasya vrata — four months (Sravana, Bhadra, Aswin, Kartika) of intensified sadhana and specific food restrictions month-by-month. The four months end on Probodhini / Utthana Ekadashi when the Lord 'awakens'.

Mantra
ॐ नमो नारायणाय / Om Namo Narayanaya
Om Namo Narayanaya — the foundational eight-syllable Vishnu mantra
Om — I bow to Lord Narayana
How to recite
Observe the Ekadashi grain fast today. Tomorrow take a vow for the four-month Caturmasya — minimum: avoid one of the four monthly restricted foods (leafy greens, yogurt, milk, urad dal in turn). Maximum: full Caturmasya vow with daily sadhana increase, additional rounds, or specific niyamas (sleeping on the floor, no cooking by self, daily Bhagavatam reading, etc.).
Benefits
Sayana Ekadashi (also called Devshayani / Hari-sayani / Padma Ekadashi) marks the beginning of Caturmasya — the four-month spiritual intensification when Lord Vishnu 'reclines' on Sesa Naga in the cosmic ocean. Any vow taken during Caturmasya bears multi-fold fruit. Srila Prabhupada specifically encouraged ISKCON devotees to take the Caturmasya vows as stated in the Hari-bhakti-vilasa.
✦ Special Note
Per the Mayapur Vaishnava Calendar. ISKCON Caturmasya rules per Hari-bhakti-vilasa: month 1 (Sravana) avoid leafy greens; month 2 (Bhadra) avoid yogurt; month 3 (Aswin) avoid milk; month 4 (Kartika) avoid urad dal and beans. Devotees may take a single one of these or all four. Marriages, sacred-thread ceremonies, and major celebrations are traditionally suspended during Caturmasya.
