Holi — the spring colour-festival on Phalguna Purnima eve (Holika Dahan) and Chaitra Krishna Pratipada morning (Holi proper / Dhulendi). At Ayodhya, the Ramanandi mandirs hold the most joyful Sita-Ram-Holi of the year — flower-petals, abeer, and gulal showered on the Ram darbar, with continuous Siyaram-naam-sankirtan and Holi-bhajans through the day.

Mantra

श्री सीताराम होली खेलें · अबीर गुलाल बरसें

Shri Sita-Ram Holi Khelen · Abeer Gulal Barsen

Sri Sita-Ram play Holi — abeer and gulal rain down — the divine couple celebrates spring with us in Ayodhya.

How to recite

On Phalguna Purnima eve, perform Holika Dahan — light a small ritual fire with cow-dung cakes, recite the Prahlada-katha, and offer the year's accumulated negativity into the flames. The next morning (Chaitra Krishna Pratipada), apply abeer and gulal first to the Ram darbar at the home altar, then to elders for blessings, then play Holi with family and bhaktas. Sing Holi-bhajans of Sri Sita-Ram playing colour at Ayodhya.

Benefits

Holi is the spring colour-festival held in the Ramanandi tradition as the day Sri Sita-Ram play colour at Ayodhya with all the praja (citizens) — a celebration of the equality of all bhaktas before Bhagavan, regardless of caste, age, or status. The Holika Dahan of the previous evening burns away the year's negative karma; the morning's gulal showers the new year's blessings.

✦ Special Note

The Ramanandi Holi keeps the spirit of pure devotional joy — strictly satvik, alcohol and intoxicant-free, with abeer and gulal made from natural flower-and-herb pigments. Aborigine-style colour fights with chemical dyes are gently discouraged. Dates per the standard Vikram Samvat Panchang (Purnimanta system — month boundary at Purnima), Ayodhya/Varanasi convention; same underlying calendar as Hindu general, Purnimanta month naming.
