Devasnana Purnima — the sacred public bath of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshan with 108 pots of fragrant water on Jyestha Purnima at Puri. The Hati-vesha (Ganesha elephant-form) darshan follows the bath. After this day the deities enter the 15-day Anavasara seclusion.
Dates 2026–2027
Mantra
ॐ श्री जगन्नाथाय नमः। स्नान-वेदी जगन्नाथं।
Om Sri Jagannathaya namah; snana-vedi Jagannatham
Salutations to Lord Jagannath, who appears upon the snana-vedi (bathing platform) for the great public bath.
How to recite
On Jyestha Purnima the deities are brought out from the sanctum to the snana-mandap and bathed publicly with 108 pots of fragrant water drawn from the Suna Kua (golden well). After the bath the deities appear in the special Hati-vesha (elephant-form attire of Ganesha) — commemorating the bath fever after which they enter the 15-day Anavasara seclusion. Devotees travel to Puri or perform mansik snana of their household Jagannath.
Benefits
This is the only day of the year Jagannath is publicly bathed; the bath cools and refreshes the Lord but causes a ritual fever, leading to the Anavasara seclusion. The Hati-vesha darshan after the bath is considered exceptionally rare and auspicious.

Per Drik Panchang. Jyestha Purnima 2026: May 31. 2027: June 19. The 108 bathing pots are filled at the Suna Kua (golden well) inside the temple; only this water is used.
