Annakut ('mountain of food') is the pinnacle seva day of the Pushti Marg calendar — falling on Kartik Shukla 1, the day after Deepawali. Govardhan Puja honours Krishna's lifting of Mount Govardhan. In Pushti Marg, this is not a fast day at all: it is the day of maximum bhog, maximum seva, and maximum joyful offering. Nathdwara temple creates a literal 'mountain of food' before Shrinathji's svarupa

Mantra

Shri Nathji Sharanam Mama

Shrinathji is my refuge — addressing Shrinathji directly

Shrinathji alone is my one true shelter

How to recite

Wake before sunrise and prepare the Chappan Bhog — 56 food items representing every category of taste and nutrition. Arrange all items beautifully before Shrinathji's svarupa and offer them with love, singing the Govardhan Puja kirtan. The entire day is dedicated to this seva. Only after all food has been offered to Shrinathji may you eat — receiving it as prasad. Share generously.

Benefits

Annakut commemorates the day Krishna lifted Mount Govardhan on his little finger to shelter the Braj community from Indra's flood. Govardhan itself is worshipped as the embodiment of Shrinathji. The 56 food items represent the universe of sustenance surrendered to Krishna. Pushti Marg's principal haveli in Nathdwara, Rajasthan prepares hundreds of varieties of food on this day.

✦ Special Note

In Pushti Marg, Annakut IS the great seva. Thousands of varieties of food are arranged before Shrinathji's svarupa at Nathdwara each year. In Pushti Marg households, the tradition is to cook as many items as possible — rice, dal, bread, sweets, pickles, chutneys, snacks — and offer them as a mountain of food. Share all prasad generously. Annakut is a day of abundance, gratitude, and communal joy. Vikram Samvat 2083. Dates per the Utsav Tippani published by Nathdwara Mandir Seva Mandal on pushtimarg.net (pushtimarg.net/new-updates/utsav-tippani/).

Foods to Avoid

Meal Idea

Annakut is the one day in the year when the seva goal is abundance, not restraint — cook as many varieties as you can manage, offer them all to Shrinathji, and share the prasad with family and community. Even 5–6 items offered with full devotion is a beautiful Chappan Bhog
