Bhai Dooj / Yama Dwitiya / Bhratri Dwitiya — Kartik Shukla Dwitiya — the second day of the bright fortnight after Diwali. Sisters apply tilak to brothers and feed them a lavish meal; brothers offer gifts and pledge protection. Commemorates the day Devi Yamuna welcomed Yamaraj to her home — Yamaraj decreed that any brother who visits his sister on this day will be blessed with longevity.
