Mantra

ॐ विश्वानि देव सवितर्दुरितानि परा सुव। यद् भद्रं तन्न आ सुव॥

Om vishvani deva savitar duritani para suva, yad bhadram tan na a suva

O Savita (Sun-God, illuminator of all), drive away from us all wickedness; bring to us all that is good. (Yajurveda 30.3 — a favourite mantra of Maharshi Dayananda)

How to recite

Wake before dawn, snan, and Sandhya. At sunrise, perform a special expanded havan with 16 or 32 ahutis. Read Chapter 1 of Satyarth Prakash (his magnum opus, 1875). Attend the mandir's Jayanti sabha — usually held over a full day with bhajan, pravachan on his life, and discussion of the 10 Niyams and Yam-Niyam-Asana of Ashtanga Yoga (he was a strict adherent and teacher of yoga).

Benefits

Maharshi Dayananda was born as Mool Shankar Tiwari on Phalguna Krishna Dashami, Vikram Samvat 1881 (12 Feb 1824 CE) at Tankara, Morvi (Gujarat) to a devout Audichya Brahmin Shaiva family. After the Shivratri vigil of 1839 at age 14 — when he saw a mouse run across the Shivling and questioned the omnipotence of an idol — he set out at age 21 in search of true God, studied for 3 years (1860-63) under Swami Virjananda Saraswati at Mathura, took vow to revive the Vedas, and went on to compose Satyarth Prakash, Rigvedadi-bhashya-bhumika, Sanskara-vidhi, and 60+ other works. His Jayanti is the most important spiritual day of the Arya Samaj calendar.
