Magha Gupta Navaratri — the hidden nine nights of Devi observed in Magha (mid-Jan to mid-Feb). Less-known publicly than Sharadiya / Chaitra Navaratri, but held in the Tantric Shakta tradition (Kashmir Shaivism cross-current, Bengal Tantric akhadas, Vindhyachal, Tarapith, Kamakhya) as the most powerful Navaratri for inner Devi sadhana. The 10 Mahavidyas are worshipped instead of the 9 Durgas.

Mantra

ॐ ऐं ह्रीं श्रीं क्लीं — दशमहाविद्या नमो नमः

Om Aim Hreem Shreem Kleem — Dasha-Mahavidya namo namah

Salutations to the 10 Mahavidyas — the great wisdom-goddesses of Tantric Shakta. Aim is Saraswati, Hreem is Shakti, Shreem is Lakshmi, Kleem is Kama-bija. (The four root bijas of all Devi sadhana.)

How to recite

Set up ghatasthapana on Pratipada with kalash and sown barley. Each of the 9 days is dedicated to one Mahavidya: Day 1 Kali, Day 2 Tara, Day 3 Tripura Sundari (Shodashi), Day 4 Bhuvaneshwari, Day 5 Bhairavi, Day 6 Chinnamasta, Day 7 Dhumavati, Day 8 Bagalamukhi, Day 9 Matangi (Kamala on closing). Recite the Mahavidya stotram for each. Maintain strict fast on Ashtami and Navami. Gupta Navaratri is observed silently — no public puja, only inner sadhana.

Benefits

Magha Gupta Navaratri is one of the two hidden (gupta) Navaratris reserved for advanced Tantric sadhakas. Unlike the public Sharadiya and Chaitra Navaratris, these nine days are for esoteric Devi-worship of the 10 Mahavidyas — the great wisdom-goddesses who reveal the inner workings of consciousness. Sadhana during Gupta Navaratri is held to grant Mahavidya-siddhi.

✦ Special Note

Magha 2026 Gupta Navaratri (19-27 Jan 2026) has already passed; the 2027 observance is 6-14 Feb. Kamakhya Devi temple in Assam and Tarapith in Birbhum are the most sacred Gupta Navaratri pilgrimage sites. Dates per Drik Panchang (drikpanchang.com, Bengal/Amavasyanta reckoning), cross-checked against astronomical tithi computation.
