Sant Savata Mali Punyatithi — Ashadh Krishna Chaturdashi ~1295 CE at Aran. Savata Mali is the patron-sant of every Warkari householder who cannot leave home to walk the Wari — his life proves that the daily work of growing, cooking, and offering food to Vitthal is itself the Wari.
Dates 2026–2027
Mantra
कांदा मुळा भाजी अवघी विठाबाई माझी
Kanda mula bhaji avaghi Vithabai maajhi
Onion, root, vegetable — every leaf in my garden is my Vithabai (Vitthal as mother). Savata Mali's most famous abhanga.
How to recite
Sing the abhangas of Sant Savata Mali — especially 'Kanda mula bhaji avaghi Vithabai maajhi' and 'Aamhi maali maali'. Visit Aran if possible (his samadhi-place near Pandharpur). Tend the home garden as bhakti — Savata Mali's grace flows through the act of growing food for offering.
Benefits
Sant Savata Mali (~1250-1295) was the gardener-saint of Aran (in present-day Solapur district). He never went on a Wari to Pandharpur — instead, he saw Vitthal in every plant he grew, and the Lord came to him daily in his garden. The famous story tells how Mauli and Namdev came to test him, and Vitthal hid inside Savata Mali's body to protect his bhakta from interruption. His grace gives Vitthal-darshan in the daily kayaka — the householder's work — without need for pilgrimage.
✦ Special Note
Falls in the post-Ashadhi-Wari window. Aran (Pandharpur district) holds the Savata Mali Mandir and the original garden where Vitthal hid inside the saint's body — a site of pilgrimage for Mali-Warkari families and for every Warkari grihastha. Per the Marathi Drik Panchang (Amanta system) — Ashadh Krishna Chaturdashi.
