Akshay Tritiya — Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya, the most auspicious day of the year for charity that 'never depletes' (akshay punya). For Bishnois, observed with dawn tree-planting (Khejri, Rohira, Neem, Peepal), gau-daan, anna-daan, and village vraksh-ropan drives. The 29-niyam ecological philosophy aligns perfectly with the Akshay Tritiya theme.

O living being, chant Vishnu, chant Vishnu — Jambhoji's mool mantra, recited at the dawn tree-planting on Akshay Tritiya.

How to recite

Akshay Tritiya for Bishnois is centered on tree-planting (vraksh-ropan), gau-daan (cow-gift), and anna-daan (food-charity) — all rooted in the 29 niyams. Wake before sunrise, bathe, perform sandhya. Plant a Khejri (Prosopis cineraria), Rohira (Tecomella undulata), Neem, or Peepal sapling on family land or village commons — water it with tulsi-water and recite Vishno mantra. Donate grain (bajra, moong dal) to the village panch for distribution, and offer water and fodder to cattle. The day is considered the most auspicious of the year for charity that 'never depletes' (akshay).

Benefits

For Bishnois, Akshay Tritiya is the year's premier day for ecological seva — the entire 29-niyam philosophy aligns with the Akshay Tritiya theme of 'never-depleting punya' (merit). Guru Jambheshwar's teaching that protecting trees and animals is itself the highest worship of Vishnu finds its clearest expression on this day. Many Bishnoi villages organize collective vraksh-ropan drives, planting hundreds of saplings to renew the desert ecosystem.
