Diwali / Lakshmi Puja — Karthika Krishna Amavasya, the festival of lights. For Bishnois, observed with full devotion (rangoli, ghee diyas, Lakshmi puja, sweets) but with strict prohibition on firecrackers — they violate niyams #6 and #7 (no harm to any creature). The 'No-Crackers Bishnoi Diwali' is one of the world's oldest sustained anti-fireworks traditions, predating modern environmentalism by 540 years.

How to recite

Diwali (Karthika Krishna Amavasya) is observed by Bishnois with full devotion to Lakshmi and Ganesha but with strict ecological discipline. Clean the home, draw rangoli with rice flour and turmeric (no synthetic chemical colors), light pure ghee or mustard-oil diyas (never animal-fat), and perform Lakshmi puja at twilight with offerings of fresh flowers, sweets, fruits, and the day's account books. NO firecrackers — they violate niyams #6 and #7 (no harm to any creature; birds, dogs, cattle, and small wildlife are terrified and injured by fireworks). Recite Vishno mantra and Lakshmi shloka. Many Bishnoi villages run public 'No-Crackers Diwali' campaigns each year.

Benefits

Diwali is the spiritual peak of the Hindu calendar — for Bishnois it is also the year's clearest test of niyam discipline against social pressure. The 'No-Crackers Bishnoi Diwali' tradition is well-documented in rural Rajasthan; many Bishnoi children grow up never having burst a single firecracker, and the tradition has been recognized by environmental groups as one of the world's oldest sustained anti-fireworks movements (rooted in the 1485 niyams). Diwali night for Bishnois is silent, fragrant with diya-oil, and full of birdsong rather than blasts.
