Mauni Amavasya — Magha Amavasya — observed through full-day silence (mauna) and inner Panchakshara japa. The deepest yogic observance for the Shaiva-Lingayat tradition. The central holy-bath day of the Maha Kumbha Mela. Observed at every Lingayat matha worldwide.

Mantra
ಓಂ ನಮಃ ಶಿವಾಯ (ಮೌನವಾಗಿ ಜಪ)
Om Namah Shivaya (chanted silently in mauna)
Om Namah Shivaya — chanted internally throughout the day-long silence
How to recite
Observe full mauna (silence — no speech) from sunrise to sunset. Spend the day in silent Panchakshara japa, hold and worship the Ishtalinga in silent abhishek. Read Vacanas silently. Visit the local matha for the silent satsang. Take a holy-water bath at sunrise (any river or sacred water-source) — the famous Mauni Amavasya snana at the Sangamas (river-confluences) is the principal observance.
Benefits
Mauni Amavasya — the new-moon day of Magha (the most spiritually-charged month per Hindu siddhanta) — observed through full-day mauna (silence). The deepest yogic observance — silence is the highest form of speech, and the Ishtalinga is most directly experienced through inner silence. The Maha Kumbha Mela's central holy bath day is Mauni Amavasya — drawing tens of millions of devotees including thousands of Karnataka Lingayats.
✦ Special Note
Per the Kannada Drik Panchang. The Karnataka Mauni Amavasya snana spots include the Tunga-Bhadra Sangama (Hampi), the Krishna-Malaprabha Sangama (Kudalasangama), and the Krishna-Ghataprabha Sangama (Sangameshwara). Plan a sunrise snana at any sacred water-source if possible. Dates per the Kannada Drik Panchang (drikpanchang.com, Karnataka reckoning), cross-checked against astronomical tithi computation.
