How to recite

Sheetlashami — the Kashmiri Basoda — is observed on Chaitra Krishna Saptami. Food cooked the previous evening is offered cold to Goddess Sheetala / Ragnya Devi the next morning; no fire is lit on Sheetlashami day itself. Marks the seasonal transition from winter to summer and is a protective vrata for children.

Benefits

Sheetala puja protects children and family from heat-related diseases (pox, measles, fevers) as summer begins. The cold-food vrat trains the body for the coming heat.
