Teeyan is the grand monsoon festival of Punjab and Haryana celebrating Goddess Parvati's reunion with Lord Shiva. Women dress in green and red, apply mehendi, sing traditional giddha songs, and observe a partial fast. The festival celebrates feminine joy, nature's abundance, and the sacred bond of marriage.

✦ Special Note
Teeyan is as much a cultural celebration as a vrat. Women gather in groups to sing, dance the giddha, and celebrate together. The fast is partial — grains are avoided but fruits and dairy are allowed. Mehendi (henna) is applied the evening before. Swings are decorated with flowers and hung from trees. The mood is festive and joyful.
