Vat Pournima falls on Jyeshtha Purnima (the full moon of Jyeshtha month) and is the Maharashtra equivalent of Vat Savitri Vrat. Married women tie sacred thread around a banyan tree and pray for their husband's long life and health, re-enacting the devotion of Savitri who defeated Yama (Death) to save her husband Satyavan.

Mantra
ॐ सावित्र्यै नमः
Om Savitryai Namaha
Om Savitryai Namaha — I bow to Goddess Savitri, the embodiment of wifely devotion and spiritual power
✦ Special Note
In Maharashtra, this vrat is celebrated on Purnima (full moon) rather than the Amavasya date followed in North India. The banyan tree (vat) symbolises immortality and the cycle of life — its aerial roots represent Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. Circumambulate the tree 7 times while wrapping sacred thread. The story of Savitri-Satyavan is read aloud.

Puja prasad of coconut and fresh fruits — then a full satvik meal after the banyan tree rituals
