Shri Yamunaji Pragatya — the appearance day of Shri Yamunaji on Chaitra Shukla Shashti, three days before Ram Navami. Yamunaji is Pushti Marg's presiding devi-svarup — Krishna's eternal beloved at Vraj, the river along whose banks the entire Krishna-lila unfolded, and the compassionate mother who opens the bhakta's heart to Vraj-bhakti. Mahaprabhuji's Yamunashtak (eight verses) is recited daily at every Pushti Marg haveli before Shrinathji-seva begins, and on her Pragatya day every Vallabha-vamsha home altar holds a special Yamunaji-paath.

Mantra

नमामि यमुनामहं सकलसिद्धिहेतुं मुदा

Namaami Yamunaam-aham Sakala-Siddhi-Hetum Mudaa

I bow with joy to Shri Yamunaji, the source of all spiritual perfection — the opening verse of Mahaprabhuji's Yamunashtak (eight verses in praise of Yamunaji).

How to recite

On Chaitra Sud 6, recite Mahaprabhuji's Yamunashtak (eight verses) 8 times at sunrise after a bath, ideally facing the Yamuna or at the home altar before Shrinathji's svarup. Offer a fresh kheer-bhog and panchamrit to Yamunaji and Shrinathji together. If possible, take darshan at Vishram Ghat (Mathura), Keshi Ghat (Vrindavan), or Thakurani Ghat (Gokul) — Yamunaji's three principal Pushti Marg seva-ghats. Sing the padas of Surdas and the Ashtachhap kavis praising Yamunaji.

Benefits

Yamunaji is held in Pushti Marg as the fourth bhakti-purushartha — after grace (pushti), surrender (samarpan), and seva, comes Yamunaji's compassion. Mahaprabhuji taught that without Yamunaji's grace no Brahma-Sambandhi can enter the deepest Vraj-bhakti. Reciting the Yamunashtak on her Pragatya day is held to purify the bhakta of accumulated samsara-impressions and to confer access to Yamunaji's eight Vraj-bhava forms (Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Govardhan, Barsana, Nandgaon, Sanket, Mansarovar).

✦ Special Note

Vishram Ghat at Mathura (where Krishna rested after slaying Kamsa), Keshi Ghat at Vrindavan (where Krishna defeated the demon Keshi), and Thakurani Ghat at Gokul (Yamunaji's principal Gokul seva-sthal) become the three centres of Yamunaji Jayanti pilgrimage. The Shrinathji haveli at Nathdwara holds a special joint Yamunaji-Shrinathji darshan on this day. Vikram Samvat 2082 / 2083.
